چکیده

Background Guidelines from the SCMR board try to standardize the acquisition and post processing protocols for uniform and reproducible analysis of cardiac data. However, for short axis cine acquisition, the definition of the image orientation for data acquisition is not well defined, possibly leading to variation in the evaluation of the Left Ventricular cardiac function. Having a standard definition is particularly important for multi-center and longitudinal studies. Very little work has been done to evaluate the impact of the various proposed protocols on measurement results of Left Ventricular function, which is the aim of this study.

Assessment of left ventricular torsion in long axis view in patients with chronic stenosis of coronary arteries

Background: Left ventricular torsion is one of the most important biomechanical parameters of heart that routinely is measured in short axis view.  A review of the literature has indicated that assessment of left ventricular torsion in short axis view has some limitations. In the present study, we evaluated whether torsion angle assessment in long axis view can be used as a diagnostic biomechan...

Influence of the short-axis cine acquisition protocol on the cardiac function evaluation: A reproducibility study

PURPOSE To define the optimal cardiac short-axis cine acquisition protocol for the assessment of the left and rightventricular functions. MATERIALS AND METHODS 20 volunteers were recruited and breath-hold CINE images were acquired on a Siemens Prisma 3T MRI. Four short-axis acquisition planes were defined from the 4-chamber view. AV Junctions: short-axis slices parallel to the plane that cuts...

Comparison of short and long axis methods in cardiac MR imaging and echocardiography for left ventricular function.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to compare long axis and short axis methods in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and echocardiography for the evaluation of left ventricular function and mass. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included 15 patients with a history of myocardial infarction and 5 patients with normal ventricular function who were examined with cardiac MRI and echocardi...

Evaluation of left ventricular volumes and ejection fraction using fast steady-state cine MR imaging: comparison with left ventricular angiography.

Previous studies demonstrated that magnetic resonance (MR) imaging consistently underestimated angiographic measurements of left ventricular (LV) volumes. The purpose of this study was to determine whether MR imaging with steady-state free precession acquisition (SSFP) can provide improved accuracy and reproducibility in measuring cardiac function in comparison with fast spoiled gradient echo c...

Do You See What I See?

n this issue of the Journal, Hoffmann et al. (1) report on heir comparison of conventional and contrast-enhanced chocardiography, biplane cine angiography, and cardiac agnetic resonance for the detection of regional wall otion abnormalities. Their effort to acquire three or four f these modalities in the same patients creates an opporunity to consider the relative utility of these tests in a gr...
